Spring Term is Near

Not much going on except registration for the Spring has begun and I'm already in a frenzy trying to get the courses that I need.  There are 3 science courses I really need to get into, it's important to get in for Spring because there is a part 1 and 2 I need and I'm finding difficult just to get in the first one.  Looks like more classes will be added periodically though so i'll be checking almost everyday and throughout when I can, that's just how important it is.

My Specialty of Choice

Since January of this year, I have been researching the different specialties of the medical field.  What did I find?  There are SO many. HA!  Not only did I have to study the different areas of interest.  Yep, I checked everything out on Salary.com too, sure did!

I think I did a pretty good job of at least narrowing the choices down.

Top Choices:
Nurse Practioner
Cardiology
Neonatal
Pediactrics
Oncology
Ob-Gyn
ER
Head Nurse

Low Choices:
ER
Geriacric
OR
Public Health
Psychiatric

I found this on Nurslink.  These salaries are likely give and take hundreds and thousands of dollars depending location and experience.

Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist $135,000
Nurse Researcher $95,000
Psychiatric Nurse Practioner $95,000
Certified Nurse Midwife $84,000
Pediatrics Endocrinology Nurse $81,000
Orthopedic $81,000
Nurse Practioner $78,000

As I progress I know there will be areas I like more than others and parts that I'm good and and some I am not.

A Little Change!

A few changes had been made to my attending GSU this fall.  My financial aid was held up so I have to wait until January.  No worries, I have come to terms with it.  I am just trying to make sure everything is taken care of before then.  I actually would like things done by the end of October.  I would really like to be one of the first to register for Spring courses.  If you wait until the end you have to take whatever is left, which might be classes that do not benefit your degree.

Intro

I decided to be a nurse 6 years ago.  You're probably thinking great I'd love to hear about your career as a nurse.  Well, I have yet to even finish school.  Why it has taken so long would be another blog and about a 300 page book.  I  realize now I HAVE to finish.  I was literally ill at the low level job market.  Throughout this whole "economic crisis" thing I have never heard of clinical medical staff being layed or downsized.  I got to thinking well if there are professions such as medicine that are still thriving then why wouldn't everyone become a nurse.  It simply takes work!  The kind of hard work, dedication, long nights and of course money that people are not willing to do.  That's what separates many professional industries from non-professions.

I was accepted into Georgia State University July 2011.  I know this will not be an easy ride.  I have a family 2 children, household to look after, work and all the many other titles I set myself up for.  This blog is more about the wonderful experience of nursing; the teachings, the research, the patients, the specialties and all that incompasses the world of caring for well being of others.

I am going to enjoy sharing my experiences with you all on my path to becoming an RN and advancing in the medical industry.
